CAT (HOUSE)

Cat is a symbol of independence and curiosity. It is cunning, intuitive, and moves in mysterious ways.

In the physical world, House Cat is a carnivorous mammal of the family Felidae.  It has long been domesticated by human beings. Cats have been worshipped by humans in many cultures. In ancient Egypt, the cat Bast was a goddess of war who led armies into battle.  When the old and new kingdoms united, Bast became Bastet, which translates as “She of the Ointment Jar.” She continued to be worshipped as a Cat goddess, but she became a goddess of protection.  The ancient Greeks also worshipped a Cat goddess, Ailuros. Throughout the Middle Ages, Cats were used in Europe to catch and kill mice. During the Renaissance, legends arose that Cats were the familiars of witches. They are used by witches in Shakespeare’s famous play Macbeth. They have long been considered to bring good fortune in Russia, China, and Japan. The black Cat is a symbol of bad fortune in the western world. The Catholic saint of Cats is Gertrude of Nivelles. Cats have been revered by those of the Muslim faith. Mohammed is said to have had a favorite Cat named Muezza.

A Cat totem brings with it all things sensuous, mysterious, curious, and magical. One who carries the Cat totem will have a strong desire for freedom and independence. The Cat is the master of timing and brings patience to wait for the right opportunity. The Cat totem gives courage to explore the unknown.

A Cat vision or spirit animal may appear when there is a need for added confidence. It can also mean that you will soon be experiencing something magical or that you need to inject some magic into your life.

Cat dreams have many meanings. A Cat may appear in your dreams to warn you of coming bad luck or misfortune. It may be a signal that someone is lying or speaking negatively about you.
