COYOTE

Coyote is a paradox. It is a teacher of hidden wisdom that will most likely be delivered with a sense of humor.  Its messages often come in the form of jokes or trickery. Coyote reminds us of the paradox that all and nothing is equally sacred. It is a symbol of the deep magic of life and creation.

Coyote is a mammal that prefers to live in grasslands or thinly wooded terrain, but may adapt to live anywhere. In Native American culture, coyote is known as a trickster. They are said to teach us by reflecting back to us our capacity to act with either cleverness or stupidity.

Those with a Coyote totem will have great powers of adaptability. They will thrive in new situations or settings. Coyote brings a love of practical jokes and pranks to those who carry its totem. Coyote finds joy in all things and lives in the present. It brings the ability to be one’s own self and present one’s self to the world without airs or pretensions. It brings the power to reveal the truth about illusions and chaos. When all of the masks have fallen, it brings the ability to connect with deep sources of understanding and illumination. It may also bring the ability to teach and raise the young. 

A Coyote vision or dream may be a reminder to laugh at ourselves and not take ourselves too seriously.  A Coyote dream may point to some weakness or deception that is lingering in one’s life. It may also come to prepare one for the death or serious illness of a family member.
