Transform negativity and shed light on inner truth with the powerful vibration of Black Onyx.

Onyx is a silicate Chalcedony stone. It is sometimes found in other colors, but it is most frequently found in bands of black and white. Obviously, the black part of the band is Black Onyx.  It is very similar to Agate. The only real difference is that Agate’s bands are curved and Onyx’s bands are parallel. Its name is taken from the Greek word onux which translates as “fingernails.” This name was given to it because of an ancient Greek legend in which Eros mischievously cut the fingernails of Aphrodite while she was sleeping. The gods then turned the clippings into Onyx stone. Onyx was used as a gemstone by the ancient Greeks and Romans who carved the stone into cameos. They also used it in intaglio etchings. It was used in ancient Egypt as far back as the Second Dynasty for bowls. Onyx carvings of the Minoan Crete civilization have been discovered in Knossos. It was frequently used in sculptures during the early twentieth century. It was written about by Pliny the Elder and is frequently mentioned in the Bible. Onyx is found all over the world including Argentina, Brazil, India, Botswana, Madagascar, Mexico, and the United States. Onyx is a powerful protective stone. It absorbs and transforms negative energy, and helps prevent the drain of personal energy. It aids in balancing emotional and physical strength, especially in times of confusion, stress, and grief. In meditation practice, it sheds light on inner truth. It keeps the mind free of self-doubt while balancing heart and spirit. It attracts happiness and good fortune. It is associated with the root chakra and the astrological sign Leo.
