It was believed that Cobra was sent to protect the pharaoh. Artistic renditions of the Cobra on the crown of the pharaoh have been discovered in the tombs of the great and powerful. In India, a five headed Cobra is depicted as a protector of the Buddha. Cobra has been used as a symbol of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. Shiva is often displayed with a Cobra hanging from his neck. Vishnu, the Hindu god of creation, is depicted resting on the back of the Cobra Ananta as he dreams the universe into being. Cobra has been considered an immortal spirit that symbolized death, and rebirth, reincarnation.
