Bees are miraculous creatures that have a physical as well as a spiritual impact on human beings. They symbolize hard work, dedication, wealth, perspective, happiness, sexuality, and fertility. Bee is also a symbol of the Sun. It sustains our life on the Earth.

Bees evolved from Wasps around 120 million years ago during the Cretaceous when dinosaurs were walking the planet. There are approximately 20,000 species of Bee in the world today although they have been decimated by the impact of pesticides. Bees are credited with the expansion of crops by pollination creating a food supply that can sustain the world as we know it. Without Bees, most pollination would’ve had to occur by the chance of a sudden breeze which was not very efficient.  We would not have the diversity of plants we enjoy without the Bee. It is thought that the variety and bright colors of flowers evolved because of the genetic advantage of plants with markings that attracted Bees. How Bees can fly has been a mystery over the years because of the weight of the body compared to the size and texture of the wings. It is now believed that the speed of the fluttering wings is what keeps the body floating in the air. They soar through the air as they pollinate flowers and take nectar home to the hive. They create one of the purest foods known to humans, honey. They also produce beeswax which can be used for many things including candles with which we may light our lives. They are the major pollinator of flowers and vegetable. Their pollination provides energy to every living thing on the planet.  They have had a huge impact on every species on the planet from a biological standpoint. They have impacted humans since pre-historic times in other ways also. Honey was humanity’s first sweetener discovered by hunter-gatherers in pre-historic times. Bees appear in rock paintings in caves located in Spain. Honey has been used since ancient times as a source to fulfill sweet cravings and as a medicine, an antiseptic, and ingredient when fermenting alcoholic beverages. Beekeeping first began in ancient Egypt. The Bee appears in countless places in the myths, art, and cultural icons of the human race. The Delphi oracles sacrificed honey to the gods. Napoleon used the Bee as a symbol for his empire. Homer, Virgil, Aristotle, Plato, Erasmus, Shakespeare, Yeats, Tolstoy, and countless more use the Bee in their works for symbolic and other purposes. 

A Bee totem is perfect for anyone who works with others or does teamwork of any kind. A Bee totem gives a strong work ethic and an ability to cooperate with others to get the task done. Bee has the ability to focus all of its energy so that it may accomplish the hardest of jobs. It is said the Bee totem brings the power to achieve the impossible over and over. A Bee also knows when it’s time to stop and smell the roses. Bees know how to enjoy the fruits of their labor. They have a strong sense of the proper use of energy. Bees do well working in service to others. The Bee totem brings a great sense of sexuality and fertility.
