Apache Tears is a translucent form of Black Obsidian. It is also known as Smoky Obsidian and Marekanite. It is commonly found in the Southwestern United States and Mexico. Apache Tears are nuggets or pebbles of Obsidian found in grayish perlite, a form of lava rock that occurs when water enters the cooling lava at different rates with different alkalinities. Native American legend says that Apache Tears are the tears of Apache women who cried when they learned their warriors had been driven off a cliff and killed by the cavalry in the late nineteenth century. This is a gentle form of Obsidian that links strongly with the emotional body. It is very helpful in removing old wounds, healing grief, and uncovering hidden emotional issues. It is best known for its impact on healing deep grief. It may be used as a rescue stone to aid panic, fear, and shock. It is a good stone for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
