In Japan and Korea, there is a tradition that Rabbit lives on the moon. Rabbit is mentioned in Christian, Buddhist, and Judaic custom as a part of a holy trilogy. In Judaic tradition, Rabbit is also a symbol for cowardice. The trickster aspect of Rabbit is seen frequently in modern popular culture. Brer Rabbit, a character based on African folklore, and Bugs Bunny are two examples. The juxtaposition of Rabbit’s innocence and sexuality is seen in the modern Playboy bunny. The Rabbit foot has been considered a symbol of luck since 600 B.C.
